What a superlative piece of art ‘Shenmue’ was. If you have yet to play it then bare with me on this, but if like me and many others you have played and finished the game, you will understand why I want to play the second chapter so much. Already I’m counting down the days…even though there isn’t a release date yet! While ‘Shenmue’ cost 70 million dollars and was in development for around 5 years, the second chapter will hopefully hit our shores between late 2001 and early 2002. However, I wanted to wet our appetites even more so this little section of the site will belong to me! (Hands off Faz!) What I intend to do is add to this section of the site whenever I get new shots or information on the epic that will be ‘Shenmue: Chapter 2’

I have already told you about the huge cost and development time of 'Shenmue'…so why won't the second chapter take as long? Well, the game engine is already here and it only has to be tweaked to make it better (if that can be possible). A lot of the development expense went into the design of the game, but now they can simply concentrate on the story instead of building a game engine from scratch…so that's why we expect the second chapter a lot sooner. However, there are even reports that a third chapter is in development! The only problem I can see us having is to wait for is the translation from Japanese to English once again. Yet we are still unclear how they will go about this…they may well translate it as they go along to save time and cost.

The game is to come on a whopping 6 discs, so that's twice as much as the first game in the series. We are hoping to unravel a lot more of the story in the second chapter and who knows, we may find out what Shenmue means! It will take place in China and maybe Japan. We have 3 screenshots to show you, but whether this is the second chapter or simply a promotional video is unknown. However, I have a gut instinct telling me it's the game, and I'm never wrong, am I Faz? [Ed: no you're always right!]
